Instagram Hacks
What hashtags should you use?
This is a good question. Here’s one strategy.
Find Instagram accounts that have over 10K followers, preferably a million followers.
Include these hashtag accounts with your regular hashtags.
Here is the objective. When you do this you get more eyes on your posts.
Who has time to hashtag?
I agree! I don’t want to have to write out all my hashtags every time.
Do this. Figure out all of your important hashtags and send them to yourself in an email.
Save them to your phone in post it notes or some other area where you can easily get to it.
When you are ready to post just copy all your hashtags and put them in your post.
You can use this same technique with your photos. See the next tip.
What type of photos should you use?
The photo should have a clear subject. If you have photos that don’t have this, you aren’t able to tell a clear story. After all, that’s what Instagram is. It’s a story telling platform using photos.
Use photos that catch people’s attention. Easier said than done, right? The best way to do this is to take photos and post photos. Look at the ones that are performing well and do more of that. Also, try to duplicate photos that are performing well with your own twist.
Be consistent with your account theme.
This should be somewhat simple. If your Instagram account is about cats don’t put up pictures of sports cars- unless a cat is in it:) That’s it.
Create a personal photo bank.
If you are using a regular Camera you can transfer the photos from your camera to your phone using an app such as Canon Camera Connect or Sony’s Playable Memories
If this doesn’t work with your camera you can transfer all your photos to your computer and email them to yourself.
I recommend having a Gmail account for this. Google will put them in a zip file or Google Doc file you can access from your phone.
Just download the photos to your phone and post to Instagram. This works well for showing videos as well.
How often should you post?
The answer is often. I have noticed that people follow and then unfollow on a regular basis. This is often in the hopes that you will follow them and then you will be unfollowed.
It’s weird but here’s why people do this. Instagram likes people who only follow 1/3 of their own followers. So, if you have 100 followers you should only be following 33 people or accounts. I don’t know why this is important but it is.
So, there you have it. This could always change.
